Going to the zoo

October 4, 2008 by Vikram Hazra 2 Comments

While in Baroda last weekend, I just had to take Tina to one of my all-time favourite haunts — the Sayaji Baug zoo! I practically lived there on my holidays; it’s a wonder they didn’t give me an honorary cage 🙂 This coincided with a humongous Gerald Durell fixation (“My Family and Other Animals” and other classics of the genre) when my biggest wish was to have a pet snake. A friend actually brought home a sand boa as a gift when I was 10, but mum nearly threw a fit so away it went…
Even after all these years, I remembered the place like the back of my hand; we took along two bright and sassy kids, Vishrut and Vaishnavi, whose enthusiasm, wit and wisdom added a further sparkle to the day. We ended a thoroughly fruitful afternoon by visiting Pizza Hut and engaging in a further feast of reason and flow of soul, over yummy munchies and much messy hilarity.

    Dear Vikram,

Its pleasure to read & get feel of you & grace of Guruji through your blog.

I had been to the same zoo many time during my stay there from 1993-96 & it was enchanting experience. It is one of the best maintained zoo & occupants of the cage are really looked after.

With warm regards & heartfelt wishes
