That’s the title of a song by Randy Travis (my favourite country singer) and Vern Gosdin; it’s a tongue-in-cheek lament about how we’ve screwed the future of our planet in the name of progress.
Driving through Goa, one feels that God has truly been kind to us, giving us such a beautiful and abundant home. But then it hits us; the life of this lovely planet is at the gravest risk; it’s frankly just overloaded and may not wish to take the pressure of humankind much longer!
The signs have been there for all to see; climate change, loss of natural resource, all accompanied by a slow but escalating vitiation in human attitude – a sense of callousness, societal violence and insensitivity. It’s no point blaming media for this – they in turn will say they only provide what people want to see. It’s crucial now for all good and concerned people to take a serious stand on these issues. We would like to focus particularly on two areas – the youth and the rural sector – these being key to any development our country could ever hope to dream about.

Also to add to your observation, do you also feel that the sensitivity of people towards others is shrinking so drastically oflate that we no longer care for the person next to us? I find this attitude very much prevalent in Bangalore but not sure in other cities. Though I dont see this alarming sense of (or senseless of)an callousness with people outside India or atleast could not find this in UK even now.
Am still wondering why is this happening…Though the solution to this is to bring awareness to people through breath, its a bit of a challenge to break into the ‘I know it all, done it all’ attitude as well. What can be done ????

Insensitivity, you struck the nail right at the point. More individuals becomes sensitive to what is being happening more is the hope.
Yup, blaming media or anybody would never help for the solution. Realizing what we have done and become sensitive towards can stop more damage. Just like if we realize putting the hand in fire is going to destroy my own hand, if realize we are destroying our own selves we will stop. It does not require media or any body else to stop us from putting our hand in fire. Or own sensitivity tells us.

hi,
couldn’t resist visiting your blog after coming from the refreshing satsang.A police man is subjected the most to increasing insensitivities and lessening spaces for others. All are running so fast and in simultaneous search of so many things that at a particular point of time when there is a pause often per force we suddenly are zapped and confused at what are we actually after.the short cuts are cutting the pleasures of being human short.
Bye and do keep in touch,it is so good to have met you.

Thanks everyone; you know, i hv been writing and publishing my work since I was 12 yrs old, and still contribute to different journals when my friends commission stories. But writing this blog has been a much more intimate experience, and seems to bring people closer through media in a v constructive way. As far as appreciation goes, I consider my talents a gift from God, and hence dont really own credit for praise heaped on me; the added benefit is that I dont own the criticism as well — things are the way they are, thats all! 🙂
warm regards
Vikram
